Cards division by type

According to their utilisation, plastic cards are divided into:

• Payment cards
• Branded payment cards (EC/MC, Maestro, ec, edc, Cirrus, VISA, VISA Electron, American Express, Diners Club, JCB...)
• Non-branded payment (pre-paid) credit cards
  • Petrol cards
  • Credit cards
• Other cards (ID cards)
  • Identification cards (containing name, photo, and other personal data)

According to the information medium type, plastic cards are divided into:

• Magnetic cards
  • LoCo, Low Coercivity (density of magnetic field 300 Oe)
  • MeCo, Medium Coercivity (density of magnetic field 2700 Oe)
  • HiCo, High Coercivity (density of magnetic field 4000 Oe)
• Chip cards
  • Contact chip cards (memory, processor, microprocessor cards)
  • Contact-less chip cards
• Combined cards
  • Chip cards + magnetic stripe
